Patty Covington
Patty Covington has practiced in consumer financial services for the last 20 years. For five years prior to that, Patty practiced in the area of commercial financing, bankruptcy and mergers & acquisitions. Patty joined Hudson Cook as a partner in June 2005, coming from CarMax, where she served as deputy general counsel. Prior to her eight years at CarMax, she was in private practice.
Patty advises banks, auto sales finance companies, installment lenders, motor vehicle dealers, leasing companies, trade associations, ancillary product providers and technology providers on a wide array of issues related to consumer financial services law. Her practice focuses on auto finance, personal property lending, installment lending, dealer law, creditor-based collection practices, ancillary products law, federal and state regulatory compliance, CFPB-readiness, UDAAP, UDAP, privacy, data security and information management, electronic commerce and marketing.
Patty is honored to be a Fellow of the American College of Consumer Financial Services Lawyers, “a professional association of lawyers particularly skilled and experienced in handling consumer financial services matters and dedicated to the improvement and enhancement of the skill and practice of consumer financial services law and the ethics of the profession.”
Patty co-created the National Automotive Finance Association’s Consumer Credit Compliance Certification Program and serves as a co-instructor of the program. She is a founding board member and past president of the National Association of Dealer Counsel. Patty is a frequent speaker on matters related to the CFPB, regulatory compliance and consumer finance.
